Summer Fruits and Berries
Fresh fruits and berries are a joy, their sweetness and tartness just sparkles
I am a huge fan of shortcakes or pound cakes to tuck along with those fresh flavors. Why wait for winter and making a cobbler or crumble?
Hands down, my favorite shortcake recipe is THIS one using Bisquick. It is easy, tasty and extremely flexible. I’ve put the dough into one pan or in muffin tins depending upon how I want to serve it.
If you want to make your shortcake(s) from scratch, try THIS recipe. Note the time an temperature adjustments some users have noted.
If you, like me, have a Better Homes and Gardens or Betty Crocker cookbook on hand, be sure to check out what they have to offer on the subject. There is treasure in those books!
The beauty of shortcake is that it can be eaten all Summer as the growing season changes and what is available shifts. But don’t forget the treasures in the freezer section! I love blackberries and many times the only way I could (a) find any and (b) afford what I had found was by checking the freezer section.
Oh, don’t forget the whipped cream! Or the ice cream!
