Love Those Vintage Recipes!

I somehow missed this episode of Glen and Friends when it debuted. That being said, when I did see it, it brought more than one smile to my face.

Yum!

While we love to love on those <cough> modern recipes, it has been said that there is really nothing new under the sun. This vintage recipe takes us back to a time before the convenience foods we are inundated with today. Yes, there were what could be called convenience foods back in the day – hence Glen’s discussion of the 1 ounce square of chocolate – but the difference is astounding.

What I love about vintage recipes is the return to classic flavor profiles and the use of techniques that often provide a better result than some of the modern versions. Watching Glen is a primer on how things used to be done and, often, why.

While modern flavor choices are often quite different, it is interesting to contemplate that what was the norm in 1938 was more often more flavorful than what came before it. Why? The availability of ingredients.

This recipe is accessible for the modern cook and should be easy to prepare. I am adding it to my list, are you?
